“He wants to come back to Arsenal” — Theo Walcott backs Gunners return for Aaron Ramsey

Former Arsenal forward Theo Walcott believes Aaron Ramsey would welcome a return to the Emirates following his forgetful spell at Juventus.

The Welsh midfielder left the Gunners in 2019 upon the expiration of his contract and signed a £400,000-a-week deal with Juventus, making him the highest-earning British player ever in terms of basic salary.

His move to Turin ended a glittering 11-year stint at Arsenal having joined from Cardiff as teenager in 2008, with the 71-capped Wales international winning three FA Cups under former manager Arsene Wenger.

However, his Juventus career has not exactly lived up to those lofty heights, with the 30-year-old struggling for form and consistency at a club that hasn’t exactly found stability themselves, going through three managers during Ramsey’s three years.

Maurizio Sarri was at the helm for Ramsey’s maiden campaign at the Italian heavyweights, before he was relieved and Andrea Pirlo stepped into the equation last season, while Massimiliano Allegri is now the man calling the shots for his second tenure.

Ramsey has drawn links to Premier League duo Everton and Newcastle in recent weeks, but former Arsenal teammate Walcott believes he would prefer a return to the Gunners, and believes his showing for Wales in the nation’s 1-1 draw with Belgium on Tuesday shows he still has the capabilities to operate at the highest level.

“I’ll find out, give him a call and pester him (on if he’s returning to the Premier League),” Walcott told talkSPORT.

“It would be lovely for him to come back. I feel like he would want to. Some part of me in my head is thinking he wants to come back to Arsenal.

“It’s one of those things, he’s at Juventus. He played very well for Wales last night. A lot of people have been on his back in Italy and I haven’t seen enough of it.

“But he’s a leader. He’s a workhorse. Still playing for his country and has all these caps. It would be great for him to come back to the Premier League.

“We want all these players back in the Premier League, [Cristiano] Ronaldo is back as well.”
